Job Opportunity: Curator of Ornithology – Durban Natural Science Museum
The Durban Natural Science Museum (DNSM) is a small museum with a big mission: to acquire and disseminate knowledge about the Earth, its history, and life on Earth, both past and present. To aid in this quest, the DNSM is seeking to appoint a Curator of Ornithology.
Funded by the eThekwini Municipality, the position is in the Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit of the Libraries and Heritage Department.
The Curator will apply academic knowledge to develop the natural science collection at the DNSM through alignment and monitoring the execution of work functions.
Applicants must have:
- Master of Science (NQF9) in Zoology, with some relevance to Ornithology
- Registration with SACNASP as a Professional Natural Scientist
- Valid motor vehicle driving license
- 4 years relevant experience
- Computer literacy
Key Responsibility Areas include (among others):
- aligning and defining key programmes priorities
- coordinating and controlling personnel performance, productivity and discipline
- conducting research and collaborating with local and international academics
- disseminating relevant information and knowledge
